UNIFORM DIVISION COMMANDER - John Burks
Captain John Burks is the Uniform Division commander and has been a Brea Police Officer for 23 years, including the last seven years as a captain. He has also served as a patrol officer, field training officer, school resource officer, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant, and lieutenant. Captain Burks has a Master's degree from Chapman University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Class 251. The members of the Uniform Division are responsible for providing front line law enforcement services throughout Brea. INVESTIGATION DIVISION COMMANDER - Gregg Hayden
Captain Gregg Hayden is the Investigation Division commander and is a 23-year veteran of the Brea Police Department. Captain Hayden has held many different positions throughout his career including assignments as both a detective and an investigation supervisor. He holds both Bachelor and Master's degrees from Cal State Fullerton and Chapman University, respectively. The Investigation Division consists of the Detective Bureau, the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Property & Evidence, the Crime Analysis Unit, and the Records Unit.
EAST AREA COMMAND
Lieutenant Adam C. Hawley is the East Area Commander and has been with the Brea Police Department for 21 years. The East Area is the largest patrol geo-area in the city. East Area encompasses all property north of Birch Street between Brea Boulevard and the eastern and northern city limits. This includes Carbon Canyon, the Blackstone development, Wildcatters Park and the Brea Sports Park.
WEST AREA COMMAND
Lieutenant Santo Porto is the West Area Commander and has been with the Brea Police Department for 24 years. The West Area Command encompasses both residential and commercial properties. The boundaries include Brea Boulevard to the east, Imperial Highway to the south, and the city limits to the north and west.
CENTRAL AREA COMMAND
Lieutenant Bill Smyseris the Central Area Commander and is a 29-year veteran of the Brea Police Department. The Central Area Command is defined geographically by the 57 freeway to the east, the Brea Downtown to the west, Imperial Highway to the south, and the Rails to Trails to the north. This area includes the Brea Mall and the Brea Downtown.
SOUTH AREA COMMAND
Lieutenant Peter Rodriguez is the South Area Commander and has been with the Brea Police Department for 22 years. The South Area includes both residential and business/retail centers. This command area includes all areas from Imperial Highway south to the city boundaries, west to Palm Avenue, and east to Rose Drive. It includes retail centers and the La Floresta development south of Birch Street.
